Open and Affirming

In 2003, First Church Natick proudly adopted the following covenant to make it clear that this congregation seeks to be a faith community where no one is required to repudiate their God-given identity in order to be welcome:

The First Congregational Church of Natick affirms the dignity and worth of every person. We are called to express the love and welcome of Christ. We celebrate the diversity of God’s creation and the gifts, talents and resources of all who strive to build a church that is faithful to God.

We, therefore, covenant to be an open and affirming congregation. We embrace and support those who experience rejection and find themselves in exile from spiritual community. We welcome people of every ability, race, culture, gender, economic circumstance, gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation.

~ Adopted October 26, 2003 ~ Revised in 2014 to include “gender expression.”

Since 2003, we have welcomed LGBTQ families, celebrated same-sex weddings, designated a gender-neutral bathroom, and partnered with OUT MetroWest serving area LGBTQ youth. We have marched in the annual Boston Pride Parade, hosted music and art events celebrating the LGBTQ community, and let our rainbow and transgender flags fly on Main Street.
